A Breakfast Full of lack
I start my morning with a cup of coffee from the Mokita, frothed almond milk, and a tasting of ‘what I don’t have right now.’ I arrange everything I don’t have right now on tapas plates and dig into my meal.
I wake up without my lover in bed, embraced by the remnants of my memories of him. On the plate next to me lies the car that isn’t and, as a supplement, all the thoughts that join the subject – the difficulty in mobility, the difficulty in finding work. I taste from every plate and allow the feeling of emptiness to fill me. I taste in my mouth all the aftermath of the fears that follow – the fears of food, the political situation, whether I’ll still be able to travel the world, and whether the business will succeed?

Full of fear, emptiness, and guilt, I get up and look out the window. How much there is outside in the world. Winter left behind green and flourishing earth. I stop and remember everything I’ve already achieved and everything I already have. I look around at the house filled with furniture, remember my body with all its parts, and remind myself that I didn’t create all of this out of a feeling of emptiness but out of a feeling of abundance.
I am afraid, that’s true, but I ask myself what I’m more afraid of – failing or staying in place? The difficult memories, the people who mocked and belittled and said I wouldn’t succeed, the silence and fear of money – do I want to allow all of these to scare and silence me or turn them into fuel that allows me to move forward and fulfill my dreams?
I remember the great effort I made to reach a comfortable life and know that I don’t intend to give up. I’ll turn the fear and emptiness into fuel and let it propel me forward.”
Choosing the good in my life is a daily job, choosing to progress and improve and be good to myself – that’s a daily job. I’m here to share with you some tips that will help you choose yourself every day:
- Meditations – Whether the practice lasts 5 seconds or an hour, daily practice contributes to mental peace, allowing us to stop our thoughts and start again.
- Stop bothering yourself – every time you stop everything just to chatter on the phone, you distract yourself from the present moment. You create a habit of cutting off your train of thought. You create a habit of disturbing yourself with things that are not important. My suggestion – turn off your phone after 9 pm and turn it back on an hour after you wake up. Those who lose from this are the same people whose information you consume, not you. You will gain peace, quality time with yourself, your spouse, and your children.
- Gratitude – using gratitude on a daily basis sends our inner search engine from emptiness to abundance. We live in a world where what we don’t have is constantly presented to us, in an attempt to persuade us to buy, consume and create inner emptiness. In such a world, to be grateful for clear things such as the perfection of our bodies, our homes and furniture is not a privilege. In order to train the mind to be in a place of abundance automatically, we must practice it consistently.
Fill your mental plate with abundance so that you can taste it on your physical plate. Bon Appetit (:
See you in the next post, Sol
